About Tire Alliance Groupe

TAG's Founding

In 1995 during a supplier sponsored trip to Japan, several major regional retailers began informal discussions of the benefits of partnering their businesses in a strategic alliance to help one another survive the public strategy put forth by the emerging mass merchandisers and price clubs of dominating the replacement tire industry as self-proclaimed "category killers," at the time.

Upon their return from the trip, these regional retailers came together to formally pursue a concept to level the field of competition. As a result, the Tire Alliance Groupe (TAG) was formed with 483 retail locations. This initial alliance resulted in unprecedented strategic alliances and supply agreements that would provide TAG with exclusivity of major brand products and services at pricing competitive with the largest competitors.

TAG Today

The landscape has changed, but tires are still a necessity in today’s world. Due to changing global demands, being part of a buying group strengthens the foundation of the top tire providers Nationwide. The Tire Alliance Groupe grew from 6 members with 483 retail locations in 1995, to 35 members with almost 5,000 retail locations today. Some of the country’s largest independent retail chains are TAG members. Plus, since the need for growth in other tire segments outside of the original founder’s concept of the program, TAG has added Medium Radial Truck, OTR, Agricultural, Industrial, Lawn/Garden, and Tubes to our tire portfolio. With this, TAG incorporates over 100 member distribution and commercial centers throughout the U.S.

Overall, TAG incorporates many tire and non-tire programs to help each TAG member address each individual need in their markets.

TAG's Goal

Our mission continues to be one of partnership, sharing of ideas, pooling of our volume purchases, and partnering with strategic vendors that are looking for a solid, well rounded group of tire dealers to represent their products. We value every member, be it one that has 2,000+ stores down to one that has 5 stores!
